PRESS RELEASE
MINISTRY OF DIGITAL, THROUGH NAIO, SECURES AI TRAINING FOR 445,000 CIVIL SERVANTS UNDER GOOGLE AI AT WORK 2.0 INITIATIVE
KUALA LUMPUR, 5 FEBRUARY 2025 – The Ministry of Digital is actively implementing various initiatives to strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness in the digital economy while ensuring the sustainable development of digital technology, including artificial intelligence (AI).
At the same time, the Ministry of Digital aims to ensure that digital technologies are accessible, used ethically, and inclusive. This includes the widespread adoption of AI within the public sector.
In this regard, Minister of Digital, Gobind Singh Deo, welcomes the AI at Work for Public Services 2.0 initiative by global technology giant Google Cloud. Speaking at the launch of AI at Work 2.0 today, Gobind stated that this initiative is a significant step in the MADANI Government’s efforts to transform Malaysia’s public sector into a model of innovation, efficiency, and citizen-centric service delivery.
He further emphasized that this initiative is an extension of the collaboration between the Ministry of Digital, through the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO), and Google Cloud.
“A total of 445,000 civil servants in Malaysia will benefit from generative AI technology under the ‘AI at Work 2.0’ initiative by the Ministry of Digital and Google Cloud,” said Gobind.
MyGovUC is a centrally managed integrated communication and collaboration service under the National Digital Department (JDN). It serves 25 ministries, 3 State Secretary Offices, and 200 Government agencies.
“The integration between MyGovUC and Google Workspace represents a major transformation. It means that civil servants will have access to the latest generative AI tools to assist them in drafting policy papers, analyzing data, streamlining workflows, and enhancing public engagement, ultimately saving time and improving work quality.
“Beyond increasing efficiency, Google’s AI tools will enable civil servants to focus on what truly matters, delivering better services to the people,” he added.
The Ministry of Digital, through NAIO, will develop the AI Technology Action Plan 2026–2030, as a continuation of the AI Roadmap 2021–2025. NAIO will focus on several key sectors in Malaysia, including government digital services. It will also play a crucial role in driving collaboration between the government, industry, academia, and communities to enhance knowledge sharing, boost AI adoption in key sectors, and develop sustainable human capital within the national AI ecosystem.
Previously, the Ministry of Digital, through MyDIGITAL Corporation in collaboration with the Asia School of Business, implemented the Executive Digital Leadership Program (EDLP). This program provides insights into the latest technological advancements and prepares digital leaders from both the public and private sectors. The first cohort of 205 participants, including 158 civil servants, graduated in December 2024.
Meanwhile, JDN is currently developing the Public Sector AI Adaptation Guidelines, aimed at guiding civil servants in developing and utilizing AI products. These guidelines are expected to be launched soon. Gobind called on all government agencies to integrate AI into their daily operations.
“Civil servants are at the heart of this transformation. Their dedication and adaptability will be the key factors in ensuring the success of this initiative,” said Gobind.
