Ladies and Gentlemen.

1. It is a pleasure to join all of you today for the groundbreaking of NXP Malaysia’s expansion here in Petaling Jaya.
2. NXP is one of Selangor’s most significant and longest-established semiconductor manufacturers.
3. This expansion is therefore significant. It is a long-standing global technology company that has chosen to reinvest, modernise and deepen its presence in Malaysia.
4. This reflects confidence in Malaysia’s workforce, manufacturing ecosystem and ability to support increasingly advanced and technology-intensive operations.

5. Malaysia stands at a decisive moment in its economic transformation.
6. In Q1 2026 alone, Malaysia attracted RM92.8 billion in approved investments, with Selangor recording the highest share among all states. 3
7. Foreign investments accounted for 60.5%, or RM56.2 billion, of this total, demonstrating that global capital continues to recognise the strength of our strategic position, robust infrastructure, and business-friendly environment.
8. This strong performance aligns with broader global trends.
9. At the heart of our tech-driven transformation is the rapid evolution of our semiconductor industry.
10. Malaysia is aggressively moving up the value chain into integrated circuit design, advanced packaging, and AI hardware.
11. Through targeted public and private initiatives, we are expanding research capabilities, and modernising production capacity to secure our status as a premier microelectronics hub.
12. BMI, a unit of Fitch Solutions, highlighted that Malaysia is prioritising high-value, AI-focused data centre investments, with approximately 4.6 gigawatts of capacity planned or under construction.
13. This massive expansion underpins our Malaysia Digital 2030 blueprint, which aims to drive AI integration and increase the digital economy’s contribution to GDP to 30% by 2030.

14. NXP’s expansion contributes not only to Malaysia’s manufacturing base, but also to the technological foundation of our digital economy.
15. Malaysia must position itself not as a user of new technologies, but as a country capable of developing, producing, testing and supporting the components that enable those technologies.
16. We want investments that introduce more advanced systems into our industrial base, create higher-value technical roles and give Malaysians the opportunity to work with technologies that will define the future of manufacturing.
17. However, technology and equipment alone will not determine the success of this investment. Creating high-skilled tech workers is crucial.
18. I have been informed that NXP is collaborating with Universiti Malaya, Universiti Putra Malaysia and Monash University Malaysia to help create more local talents.
19. As such, I would like to take this opportunity to encourage NXP to continue expanding these collaborations. I urge that you create more pathways for students, graduates and existing employees to develop capabilities in automation, AI, semiconductor engineering and smart manufacturing.

20. Today’s event also reflects the strong and long-standing relationship between Malaysia and the Netherlands.
21. Such international partnerships are increasingly important as countries and companies seek more resilient and diversified semiconductor supply chains.
22. Malaysia remains committed to being a reliable and competitive partner for global technology companies.
