PRESS RELEASE
VISIT BY THE DEPUTY MINISTER OF DIGITAL TO THE KUALA LUMPUR COMMAND AND CONTROL CENTRE (KLCCC): AI DRIVING SMART CITY TRANSFORMATION
KUALA LUMPUR, 19 May 2025 – Yang Berhormat Datuk Wilson Ugak Anak Kumbong, Deputy Minister of Digital, today conducted a working visit to the Kuala Lumpur Command and Control Centre (KLCCC), as part of the Ministry of Digital’s initiative to promote the adoption of digital technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and 5G, across the nation.
The deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in major cities such as Kuala Lumpur now plays a pivotal role in accelerating the modernisation of urban infrastructure and services. It not only enhances the efficiency of city management but also directly contributes to improving the quality of life for urban residents.
Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) is actively implementing the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across various aspects of urban management. Two key initiatives highlighted are:
• Digital Twin Initiative: A virtual model of the city that enables real-time simulations to be used for more effective urban planning and faster emergency response.
• AI-Powered Traffic Management: A real-time analytics system employed to optimise traffic flow and detect incidents, thereby helping to reduce congestion and enhance road safety.
In an effort to further strengthen the nation’s smart city ecosystem, the Ministry of Digital, in collaboration with the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB), will be organising the Smart City Expo Kuala Lumpur (SCEKL 2025) from 17 to 19 September 2025.
The Expo is set to become a key platform to showcase the nation’s aspirations and achievements in smart city development. In addition, Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) reported that 5G network coverage has now surpassed 82% nationwide, thereby providing a strong foundation for the implementation of AI-driven solutions across various sectors.
MDEC also remains committed to positioning Malaysia as a regional leader in smart city development and digital transformation through various strategic initiatives focused on future technologies such as AI and 5G. Also present during the visit were the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Digital, as well as senior officials from the Ministry and relevant agencies.
