PRESS RELEASE
DIGITAL TRUST, DATA SECURITY STRATEGY BEING DEVELOPED TO STRENGTHEN REGULATORY FRAMEWORK FOR GOVERNMENT DATA SECURITY
The MADANI Government places great emphasis on the security and protection of the rakyat’s personal information available within its systems. In line with our digital transformation plans, and our commitment towards becoming an AI Nation, priority is given to security controls and protective measures to ensure that the personal data of the people remains secure, safeguarded, and is not misused by third parties.
As I mentioned in the Dewan Rakyat yesterday, the Ministry of Digital is currently developing a Digital Trust and Data Security Strategy which will strengthen the regulatory framework for government data security, while integrating the principles of security, accountability, and digital trust. This initiative will support the implementation of the 13th Malaysia Plan towards a safe and trusted AI Nation.
Through this strategy, we can protect the rakyat’s personal data in Government systems in a structured, and regularly audited manner. This will, over time, enhance public trust in the Government.
This move will be over and above existing clear laws and regulations such as the Official Secrets Act 1972 (Act 88), Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) Regulations 1993, and the Statistics Act 1965.
The Ministry of Digital, through its agency CyberSecurity Malaysia, also provides ICT security testing services, including the Malaysian Common Criteria Evaluation and Certification (MyCC) and Technology Security Assurance (TSA) certifications, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing (VAPT), as well as compliance with the international ISMS ISO/IEC 27001 standard. Public sector officers are also trained through professional certifications such as Certified Chief Information Security Officer (C-CISO).
These steps show that this ministry, and its agencies, are covering all grounds, and all layers of society to ensure data remains safe and secure as we capitalise on our booming digital economy and accelerate our plans to turn Malaysia into a digital nation.
